Margaret Ruggles has been painting for the past thirty years. She began by taking landscape lessons with artist, Anastasia Cole and studied Charles Becker, Dorothy Fitzgerald and various other teachers. She found all of them very helpful, taking a "small jewel" from each of her teachers.
Margaret was instrumental in the founding of the Millbrae Arts Association serving on the board in a variety of jobs. Twenty two years ago, she was one of the original founders of the Chadbourne Senior Activities Center in Millbrae where students are taught crafts and oil painting.
Her enthusiasm for painting has been carried over into her teaching. Her motto is "Everyone should paint!". She believes that immersing yourself in painting makes bad feelings go out the window. It is so therapeutic and emotionally healing.
Margaret was chosen as the "Millbrae Woman of the Year" in 1992 for her many volunteer activities in our community. She has recently joined the docent staff at the Millbrae Historical Society and next year will be taking an office with the Millbrae AARP Chapter.
